Why the Boston Globe is wrong about ‘Boston Marathon bombing’ story
The Boston Globe editorial board on Wednesday published a column that appeared to endorse President Donald Trump’s call to ban Muslims from entering the United States, including the Boston Marathon bombing.
In the column, the editorial board said it believes the “bias and misinformation” in the Trump administration’s campaign to “make the country safe” from terrorism is “dangerous.”
“The Boston Marathon attack was a crime that was committed by an individual who had no connection to the community and was a natural enemy of our people and our country,” the editorial said.
“We cannot afford to lose sight of the fact that we are at war with terror.”
The Globe editorial said it did not endorse Trump’s executive order.
“The Globe, which has always been clear about our views on the Boston bombing, has always had the highest standards of journalism,” it said.
The Globe has not endorsed a candidate in the 2016 presidential election.
The column came a day after the paper published a piece that accused Trump of inciting racial and religious tensions, and called the president a bigot.
The Boston bombings occurred during Trump’s presidential campaign, and he blamed it on radical Muslims.
“Radical Islamic terrorism is a direct consequence of President Barack Obama’s failed foreign policy,” the Globe editorial, which was published on Wednesday, said.
